There’s more to this trick than meets the eye, so since nobody could anticipate to impale themselves and live to tell the tale, let alone complete a magic act.
The performer will have concealed a small platform on the spike letting them break their body weight whilst giving the impression they have come to be a human kebab. Dropping down is meant to divert the audience from the tip of the spike appearing through a particular corset worn to make it look like it’s gone.
