News with Bette Midler

Bette Midler: how many years are there in a year?

This year the actress turns . She was born in Honolulu, Territory of Hawaii on December 1, 1945 . Zodiac sign: Sagittarius. Bette Midler weighs 53 kg and height is 155 cm.

The future Hollywood star was born on the first day of winter in 1945 into a poor Jewish family of a housewife and a painter at the Pearl Harbor naval base in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Midlers lived modestly, saving on everything they could. The father’s salary and the money he received from endless part-time jobs were only enough for the bare necessities for three children (Bette had an older sister and a younger brother suffering from mental retardation).

Named by her parents in honor of the legendary Oscar-winning actress Bette Davis, the girl from an early age dreamed of breaking out of hopeless poverty and conquering Broadway, and maybe Hollywood, if she was lucky. But I definitely need to leave Hawaii. She studied, sang, danced, participated in school plays and music competitions, and when, as a teenager, she had to start working at a cannery to help her parents, she realized that she needed to escape the city. Where the shine of the spotlights beckons and promises a happy, well-fed life.

Bette entered the University of Hawaii to study drama and heroically studied for three months. However, I quickly realized that there was a catastrophic lack of time for creative implementation and going to castings. And contrary to the opinion of her father, who condemned the profession of a singer, she dropped out of school and began to storm the musical Olympus in New York, where she moved with the fee from her small debut role in the film “Hawaii”. True, it was not an easy road. Midler went through hundreds of auditions, part-time work as a dancer in bars, as a glove saleswoman in a department store, and vocal performances in gay saunas, where the girl, gifted with a beautiful voice, sang songs by Bob Dylan and Rosemary Clooney. As funny as it may seem, her fate found her there.

Career and creativity

One of the visitors to Continental Baths was the famous pop singer Barry Manilow. He paved the way for the aspiring singer to fame by becoming her producer. Their debut album, The Divine Miss M, recorded together in 1972, won Midler a Grammy Award. The start was fantastic. The following releases were consistently successful. The discs sold millions of copies.

A year later, Midler fulfilled her long-time dream – she received an invitation to Broadway. And for three years she played the role of Tseytl in the musical “Fiddler on the Roof.”

In 1974, the performer’s talent was awarded a Tony Award for the audience-favorite shows called Bette Midler and Bette Midler’s Clams on the Half Shell Revue.

And two years later, Bette experienced stunning success. The musical drama “Rose” with her participation in the title role, based on the biography of the legendary rock singer Janis Joplin, brought the actress two Golden Globes, nominations for BAFTA and Oscar, as well as a Grammy for all the vocal parts for the film and for the soundtrack. It seemed like the world was at her feet.

However, her next film, the comedy “Jinxed!” expected an epic failure, as if she herself had been jinxed. The rental didn’t even cover production costs. Another would have gone into a long depression, but not Midler. She pulled herself together, and, not without the support of her loving husband, played all-in – she wrote the children’s book “Divine Child”, which became a bestseller according to The New York Times, then, in partnership with film producer Bonnie Bruckheimer, created the production company All Girl Productions and signed a contract with the Disney film studio.

The comedies released soon: “Penniless in Beverly Hills”, “Ruthless People”, “Indecent Luck”, “Big Business” and “On the Beach” brought the actress the title of “funniest actress in the USA” and a nomination for the Golden Globe, and most importantly, excellent box office results. Moreover, in the last film, Bette not only acted, but also sang. The compositions sounded in the film were released as a separate disc. And the single Wind Beneath My Wings topped the charts in many countries and gave Midler another Grammy.

In 1993, the star risked changing her role and played dramatic roles in the films: “For Our Guys,” “Stella” and “Scenes in a Store,” demonstrating that she could handle any role. The audience was delighted, and critics appreciated Bette’s talent, awarding her a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination as best actress for her role in the first film. Although she managed to play in a comedy again. The film, the fairy tale “Hocus Pocus,” did not particularly impress critics, but the audience really liked it. On the wave of success, Midler toured all over America. And everywhere full halls were waiting for her.

In 1997, one of the most successful projects with the star’s participation was released on the big screen – Hugh Wilson’s comedy “The First Wives Club” with Goldie Hawn, Diane Keaton and Midler in the lead roles. I wonder if Whoopi Goldberg and Barbra Streisand bit their elbows? After all, both actresses recklessly refused the role of Brenda, which was stunningly performed by Bette.

In the 2000s, the celebrity, without slowing down, expanded her filmography with the image of the funny Mona Dearly in the film “Drown Mona!”, the roles of grandmother Diana Decker in the comedy “Parental Disorder” and the mother of the main character in the dramatic comedy “Circus of Freaks”.

In addition, the tireless star returned to Broadway, and triumphantly. The public, missing their favorite, accepted her heroine in the production of “Hello, Dolly!” with a bang, and the next Tony Award was a nice bonus.

And last year, the actress appeared, to the great delight of fans, in the sequel to Hocus Pocus – Hocus Pocus 2. Older, but no less amazing than before.

Personal life

The star’s personal life worked out on the first try. No scandals in the press, no painful divorces and unexpected romances. Broker Martin von Haselberg is her lifelong love, support and support. In 1986, the couple became the parents of their only daughter, Sophie, who later chose the profession of an actress.

Having matured and reevaluated many things, Midler was able to restore her relationship with her father, with whom she had not communicated for many years. After all, he never came to terms with her “frivolous” career. And when my father fell ill with cancer, she made every effort to help him.
