The premiere screening of the live-action remake of Disney’s The Little Mermaid, based on the 1989 animated film of the same name, took place at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square cinema in London. All the main stars of the film appeared on the red carpet, including Halle Bailey (Ariel), Melissa McCarthy (Ursula), Jonah Hauer-King (Eric) and Javier Bardem (King Triton).
The casting of 23-year-old Bailey as Ariel was truly groundbreaking, as she became one of the first black women to play a Disney princess in a live-action film. Despite the barrage of criticism, the actress and singer proved that she is not only talented, but also natural for this role, and critics have already called the 2023 remake a truly magical, subtle reimagining of the classic story. Business analysts predict the 2023 release of The Little Mermaid to gross close to a billion dollars.
The plot of the film, fortunately, has not changed: the little mermaid Ariel (Holly Bailey) seeks to discover the world that lies above the surface of the ocean, even if this means making a risky deal with the dangerous sea creature Ursula (Melissa McCarthy). Ursula offers Ariel a deal in exchange for a potion that will make her human, but only for three days. The naive little mermaid must share the kiss of true love before the sun sets for the third time below the horizon… If she makes it in time, she will remain human. If not, then she will have to return to the ocean again, but she will lose her freedom and will forever belong to the treacherous Ursula…
“The Little Mermaid” will be released worldwide on May 26, 2023.
