13. Matthew McConaughey, “Dallas Buyers Club”
What did the public know about Matthew McConaughey in the 2000s? Only that he’s a handsome man with a pretty chocolate bar on his stomach. He played in films of the same style: simple romantic comedies without relief. The directors were convinced that he had reached his maximum and did not offer him dramatic roles. The only exception was the film “Lincoln Defense” which had only mixed success.
The role in “Dallas Buyers Club” changed everything: in 2013, Matthew McConaughey had his Oscar for best actor for this film. The journalists quickly called his return “reconnaissance”. Since then, we all know his filmography very well: Mark Hanna in “The Wolf of Wall Street”, Joseph Cooper in “Interstellar” and Rustin S. Cohle in the television anthology “True Detective”.
