Description

These Tres Leches Cinnamon Rolls combine soft, fluffy homemade dough with a buttery cinnamon-sugar filling, a creamy three-milk mixture, and smooth vanilla cream cheese frosting. A delicious twist on classic cinnamon rolls, perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

For the dough:

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • â…“ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ tsp salt

For the cinnamon filling:

  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup butter, softened

For the tres leches mixture:

  • ½ cup evaporated milk
  • ½ cup sweetened condensed milk
  • ½ cup whole milk

For the cream cheese frosting:

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2–3 tbsp milk, adjust for desired consistency

Instructions

  1. Combine the warm milk, granulated sugar, and active dry yeast in a large mixing bowl. Allow the yeast to activate.
  2. Add the softened butter, eggs, and salt. Mix until combined.
  3. Gradually add the flour and mix until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic. Place it in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until puffy.
  5. Combine the brown sugar and ground cinnamon in a small bowl.
  6. Roll the risen dough into a rectangle. Spread the softened butter evenly over the surface and sprinkle with the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  7. Roll the dough tightly into a log from one long edge. Cut into equal-sized rolls.
  8. Arrange the rolls in a prepared baking dish. Cover and let rise again until puffy.
  9. Bake according to the recipe’s specified baking temperature and time, until the rolls are cooked through and lightly golden.
  10. Whisk together the evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, and whole milk until smooth.
  11. Allow the baked cinnamon rolls to cool slightly. Gradually pour the tres leches mixture over the warm rolls, allowing it to absorb.
  12. Beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until creamy.
  13. Gradually add 2–3 tablespoons of milk until the frosting reaches a smooth, spreadable consistency.
  14. Spread the cream cheese frosting over the rolls once they have absorbed the milk mixture and cooled slightly.
  15. Serve and enjoy.

Notes

  • Use warm, not hot, milk when activating the yeast.
  • Add the tres leches mixture gradually to prevent the rolls from becoming overly saturated.
  • Refrigerate leftover rolls in an airtight container because of the milk mixture and cream cheese frosting.
